Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 1.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were JBS SA (SA:JBSS3), which rose 7.44% or 0.83 points to trade at 11.98 at the close. MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3) added 3.35% or 0.33 points to end at 10.19 and ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3) was up 2.31% or 0.05 points to 2.21 in late trade.
Biggest losers included WEG SA (SA:WEGE3), which lost 9.05% or 1.30 points to trade at 13.07 in late trade. Cia de Saneamento Basico do Estado (SA:SBSP3) declined 5.49% or 1.26 points to end at 21.70 and Vale SA (SA:VALE3) shed 5.41% or 0.67 points to 11.71.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 178 to 91 and 36 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 3.88% to 49.04.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.61% or 7.40 to $1230.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.26% or 0.40 to hit $32.27 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 1.97% or 2.35 to trade at $117.05 .
USD/BRL was down 0.01% to 3.9582, while EUR/BRL fell 0.02% to 4.3582.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.04% at 97.50.
