Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 0.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cia Energetica de Sao Paulo (SA:CESP6), which rose 10.64% or 1.37 points to trade at 14.24 at the close. Lojas Americanas SA (SA:LAME4) added 2.41% or 0.45 points to end at 19.10 and Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) was up 2.03% or 0.45 points to 22.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which lost 8.04% or 0.30 points to trade at 3.43 in late trade. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) declined 7.03% or 0.66 points to end at 8.73 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) shed 6.72% or 0.260 points to 3.610.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 164 to 131 and 21 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 3.36% to 33.52.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 1.35% or 18.15 to $1327.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.77% or 1.33 to hit $46.77 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 2.76% or 4.06 to trade at $143.12 .
USD/BRL was down 0.35% to 3.2225, while EUR/BRL fell 0.72% to 3.6296.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.23% at 94.72.
