Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Real Estate, Metals and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.08%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which rose 1.60% or 14.85 points to trade at 943.65 at the close. Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA) added 1.43% or 1.60 points to end at 113.55 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was up 1.18% or 8.45 points to 723.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which lost 4.76% or 4.90 points to trade at 98.00 in late trade. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 4.39% or 4.10 points to end at 89.30 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) shed 3.85% or 760.25 points to 18992.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which rose 0.72% to 390.00, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 0.09% to settle at 319.30 and NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which lost 0.21% to close at 141.05.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 4.62% to 98.00 in late trade, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which lost 4.39% to settle at 89.30 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 2.58% to 831.10 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 915 to 514 and 59 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 979 fell and 585 advanced, while 68 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.10% to 16.9975.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.30% or 3.85 to $1275.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.63% or 0.76 to hit $45.94 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.48% or 0.71 to trade at $47.37 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.20% to 66.775, while EUR/INR fell 0.24% to 75.7660.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.22% at 94.32.
