Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Metals and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.66%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB), which rose 3.28% or 30.05 points to trade at 945.55 at the close. Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA) added 1.20% or 1.50 points to end at 126.50 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) was up 0.89% or 178.65 points to 20292.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which lost 4.82% or 5.05 points to trade at 99.80 in late trade. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 4.77% or 4.85 points to end at 96.90 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) shed 4.50% or 37.65 points to 799.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which rose 0.85% to 2526.95, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 0.59% to settle at 468.25 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 0.23% to close at 372.30.
The worst performers were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 4.77% to 96.90 in late trade, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which lost 4.63% to settle at 100.00 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which was down 3.21% to 1087.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1049 to 375 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 587 fell and 228 advanced, while 33 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.50% to 16.5975.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.66% or 8.20 to $1258.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.18% or 0.08 to hit $45.41 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.09 to trade at $47.02 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.43% to 66.505, while EUR/INR rose 0.46% to 75.5070.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.65% at 93.77.
