Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities, Retail and Media sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Food & Beverages, Technology and Transportation & Logistics sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.33%, while the MDAX index gained 0.28%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which rose 4.52% or 0.690 points to trade at 15.945 at the close. E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) added 2.51% or 0.233 points to end at 9.523 and Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) was up 0.86% or 0.28 points to 32.77 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn), which lost 2.24% or 0.305 points to trade at 13.290 in late trade. Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) declined 1.84% or 3.300 points to end at 176.350 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) shed 1.73% or 0.103 points to 5.841.
The top performers on the MDAX were Fielmann AG (DE:FIEG) which rose 4.45% to 70.390, Salzgitter AG (DE:SZGG) which was up 2.72% to settle at 26.630 and Airbus Group SE (F:AIRG) which gained 2.58% to close at 53.000.
The worst performers were Suedzucker AG (DE:SZUG) which was down 3.16% to 21.620 in late trade, Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) which lost 1.96% to settle at 54.080 and Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which was down 1.82% to 8.25 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Suess Microtec NA O.N. (DE:SMHNn) which rose 2.87% to 6.914, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (DE:AFXG) which was up 1.69% to settle at 37.340 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which gained 1.52% to close at 50.850.
The worst performers were Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which was down 2.11% to 26.915 in late trade, Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which lost 1.29% to settle at 25.550 and CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which was down 0.85% to 37.850 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 444 to 406 and 43 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 4.01% to 20.47.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.59% or 7.85 to $1343.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 3.74% or 1.75 to hit $45.05 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 3.88% or 1.88 to trade at $46.59 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.42% to 1.1108, while EUR/GBP rose 0.91% to 0.8427.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.39% at 96.17.
