Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Metals, Capital Goods and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.57%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.48%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which rose 9.89% or 6.10 points to trade at 67.75 at the close. Meanwhile, Cairn India Limited (NS:CAIL) added 6.03% or 7.00 points to end at 123.00 and Tata Power Co. Ltd (NS:TTPW) was up 3.51% or 2.00 points to 59.05 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA), which fell 3.38% or 3.50 points to trade at 100.00 at the close. Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) declined 2.71% or 46.05 points to end at 1652.80 and Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB) was down 2.36% or 18.35 points to 759.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which rose 9.89% to 67.75, Tata Power Co. Ltd (BO:TTPW) which was up 3.50% to settle at 59.10 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 3.28% to close at 220.10.
The worst performers were NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which was down 2.14% to 126.00 in late trade, Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which lost 1.98% to settle at 550.25 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.81% to 163.05 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 906 to 523 and 43 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 479 fell and 325 advanced, while 22 ended unchanged.
Shares in Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA) fell to 3-years lows; down 3.38% or 3.50 to 100.00. Shares in Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.98% or 11.10 to 550.25. Shares in State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) fell to 52-week lows; down 1.81% or 3.00 to 163.05.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.04% to 18.2075.
Gold for April delivery was up 0.53% or 6.10 to $1147.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.10% or 0.35 to hit $32.63 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.74% or 0.26 to trade at $35.30 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.18% to 67.640, while EUR/INR rose 0.27% to 75.6340.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.57% at 96.69.
