Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Utilities, Chemicals and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 2.68%, while the MDAX index lost 2.03%, and the TecDAX index fell 1.38%.
The best performers of the session on the DAX were Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG), which rose 0.04% or 0.005 points to trade at 12.240 at the close. Meanwhile, Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DPWGn) fell 0.80% or 0.215 points to end at 26.820 and Deutsche Telekom AG Na (XETRA:DTEGn) was down 0.93% or 0.160 points to 17.040 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Daimler AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DAIGn), which fell 5.15% or 4.340 points to trade at 79.930 at the close. Continental AG O.N. (XETRA:CONG) declined 4.43% or 10.000 points to end at 215.550 and Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (XETRA:BMWG) was down 4.26% or 3.980 points to 89.420.
The top performers on the MDAX were Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which rose 0.14% to 14.145, Gagfah SA Nom. (XETRA:GFJG) which was up 0.13% to settle at 15.500 and Tag Immobilien AG (XETRA:TEGG) which gained 0.10% to close at 10.035.
The worst performers were Aareal Bank AG (XETRA:ARLG) which was down 4.95% to 36.090 in late trade, Elringklinger AG NA O.N. (XETRA:ZILGn) which lost 4.09% to settle at 23.430 and Kuka AG (XETRA:KU2G) which was down 3.97% to 75.180 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Xing AG (XETRA:OBCGn) which rose 2.65% to 180.300, SMA Solar Technology AG (XETRA:S92G) which was up 0.55% to settle at 32.000 and Stratec Biomedical (XETRA:SBSG) which gained 0.33% to close at 48.500.
The worst performers were Aixtron SE NA O.N. (XETRA:AIXGn) which was down 3.24% to 5.225 in late trade, QSC AG NA O.N. (XETRA:QSCG) which lost 3.23% to settle at 1.856 and Freenet AG NA (XETRA:FNTGN) which was down 2.90% to 29.600 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 582 to 162 and 38 ended unchanged.
Shares in Xing AG (XETRA:OBCGn) rose to all time highs; gaining 2.65% or 4.650 to 180.300.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 10.60% to 18.88.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.33% or 3.60 to $1107.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 3.87% or 1.74 to hit $43.22 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 2.95% or 1.50 to trade at $49.52 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.17% to 1.1038, while EUR/GBP rose 0.34% to 0.7092.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.05% at 97.28.
