Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Electric Power, Public Utilities and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.66%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were JBS SA (SA:JBSS3), which rose 11.18% or 0.94 points to trade at 9.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais (SA:CMIG4) added 8.76% or 0.43 points to end at 5.34 and Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3) was up 6.25% or 0.35 points to 5.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which fell 4.44% or 0.04 points to trade at 0.86 at the close. Tim Participacoes SA (SA:TIMP3) declined 4.12% or 0.26 points to end at 6.05 and Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3) was down 4.06% or 1.14 points to 26.93.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 165 to 154 and 3 ended unchanged.
Shares in Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) fell to 5-year lows; losing 4.44% or 0.04 to 0.86.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.32% to 45.02.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.03% or 0.30 to $1115.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 3.64% or 1.18 to hit $33.48 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 0.70% or 0.82 to trade at $118.97 .
USD/BRL was down 0.90% to 4.0709, while EUR/BRL fell 0.38% to 4.4573.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.46% at 98.57.
