Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Resources, Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Food & Beverages, Technology and Financial Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.67% to hit a new 3-month high, while the MDAX index fell 0.45%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were BASF SE NA O.N. (DE:BASFN), which rose 1.87% or 1.250 points to trade at 68.170 at the close. Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (DE:BMWG) added 1.54% or 1.200 points to end at 79.200 and Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG) was up 1.24% or 0.800 points to 65.340 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn), which lost 1.53% or 0.48 points to trade at 30.95 in late trade. Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) declined 0.68% or 0.140 points to end at 20.395 and Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) shed 0.47% or 0.060 points to 12.615.
The top performers on the MDAX were Kuka AG (DE:KU2G) which rose 2.27% to 93.450, Covestro AG (DE:1COV) which was up 2.21% to settle at 33.985 and Salzgitter AG O.N. (DE:SZGG) which gained 2.18% to close at 28.555.
The worst performers were Gerresheimer AG (DE:GXId) which was down 4.95% to 68.310 in late trade, Hella KGaA Hueck & Co (DE:HLE) which lost 4.46% to settle at 34.37 and Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which was down 3.51% to 5.45 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were GFT Technologies AG (DE:GFTG) which rose 3.96% to 22.975, STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which was up 3.55% to settle at 45.110 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which gained 2.17% to close at 46.245.
The worst performers were Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which was down 2.43% to 9.962 in late trade, Drillisch AG O.N. (DE:DRIG) which lost 2.30% to settle at 34.460 and Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which was down 2.25% to 35.050 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 550 to 339 and 26 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 3.16% to 18.97 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 1.72% or 21.50 to $1226.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.50% or 0.21 to hit $41.97 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.52% or 0.23 to trade at $44.41 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.07% to 1.1267, while EUR/GBP rose 0.26% to 0.7958.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.06% at 94.87.
