Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Resources, Transportation & Logistics and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Media and Construction sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.70%, while the MDAX index fell 0.02%, and the TecDAX index added 0.60%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG), which rose 3.12% or 0.575 points to trade at 19.030 at the close. Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (DE:DPWGn) added 2.23% or 0.575 points to end at 26.415 and Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) was up 0.60% or 0.18 points to 30.39 in late trade.
Biggest losers included E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn), which lost 5.58% or 0.474 points to trade at 8.022 in late trade. Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn) declined 3.61% or 1.595 points to end at 42.595 and RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) shed 3.50% or 0.415 points to 11.445.
The top performers on the MDAX were Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (DE:JUNG_p) which rose 4.10% to 83.230, Hochtief AG (DE:HOTG) which was up 3.84% to settle at 113.500 and Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which gained 1.96% to close at 48.000.
The worst performers were Hannover Rueckversicherung SE (DE:HNRGn) which was down 4.10% to 96.860 in late trade, Talanx AG NA O.N. (DE:TLXGn) which lost 2.50% to settle at 28.685 and Tag Immobilien AG (DE:TEGG) which was down 2.41% to 11.735 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which rose 5.54% to 44.000, Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which was up 3.90% to settle at 63.200 and Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which gained 3.61% to close at 40.520.
The worst performers were Jenoptik AG O.N. (DE:JENG) which was down 3.85% to 13.360 in late trade, Suess Microtec NA O.N. (DE:SMHNn) which lost 2.86% to settle at 7.820 and Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was down 2.28% to 218.900 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 490 to 366 and 31 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 1.64% to 21.72.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.77% or 9.75 to $1274.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.96% or 1.32 to hit $45.98 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.47% or 1.58 to trade at $47.10 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.59% to 1.1439, while EUR/GBP rose 0.38% to 0.7904.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.53% at 93.72.
