Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Financials, Real Estate and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 5.12% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which rose 35.11% or 0.33 points to trade at 1.27 at the close. Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR4) added 16.28% or 0.92 points to end at 6.57 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) was up 15.20% or 0.19 points to 1.44 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3), which lost 13.99% or 4.07 points to trade at 25.03 in late trade. Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) declined 10.66% or 4.26 points to end at 35.69 and Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) shed 9.78% or 1.51 points to 13.93.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 206 to 96 and 18 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 4.63% to 49.00.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 1.68% or 20.90 to $1262.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.12% or 0.04 to hit $34.70 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 2.02% or 2.34 to trade at $117.92 .
USD/BRL was down 2.43% to 3.7990, while EUR/BRL fell 1.60% to 4.1643.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.62% at 97.59.
