Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Capital Goods, Banking and Consumer Durables sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.18%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.09%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which rose 5.49% or 3.50 points to trade at 67.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Cairn India Limited (NS:CAIL) added 4.30% or 5.10 points to end at 123.80 and POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (NS:PGRD) was up 3.94% or 5.45 points to 143.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA), which fell 4.47% or 4.90 points to trade at 104.60 at the close. Larsen & Toubro Limited (NS:LART) declined 3.01% or 33.30 points to end at 1074.50 and Punjab National Bank (NS:PNBK) was down 2.51% or 2.35 points to 91.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which rose 5.32% to 67.25, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 3.02% to settle at 790.90 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 2.06% to close at 1201.20.
The worst performers were Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) which was down 2.72% to 1077.15 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 2.57% to settle at 290.25 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 2.11% to 69.75 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 762 to 690 and 12 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 425 fell and 366 advanced, while 18 ended unchanged.
Shares in Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA) fell to 52-week lows; down 4.47% or 4.90 to 104.60. Shares in Larsen & Toubro Limited (NS:LART) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.01% or 33.30 to 1074.50. Shares in Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) fell to 52-week lows; falling 2.72% or 30.15 to 1077.15. Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) fell to 52-week lows; falling 2.57% or 7.65 to 290.25.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 6.07% to 17.9000.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.18% or 2.00 to $1117.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.04% or 0.34 to hit $32.63 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.62% or 0.55 to trade at $34.48 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 68.186, while EUR/INR rose 0.10% to 74.3220.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.10% at 98.93.
