Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Electronic & Electrical Equipment, Oil & Gas Producers and Technology Hardware & Equipment sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 gained 0.57%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Royal Dutch Shell PLC (LONDON:RDSb), which rose 4.73% or 84.00 points to trade at 1861.00 at the close. Meanwhile, InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LONDON:IHG) added 4.58% or 120.00 points to end at 2743.00 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC (LONDON:RDSa) was up 4.22% or 74.50 points to 1839.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Babcock International Group PLC (LONDON:BAB), which fell 5.15% or 53.50 points to trade at 985.50 at the close. Centrica PLC (LONDON:CNA) declined 3.12% or 8.60 points to end at 266.60 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LONDON:RBS) was down 3.06% or 10.80 points to 342.40.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1279 to 1245 and 482 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.31% or 3.40 to $1089.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.47% or 0.23 to hit $49.02 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.52% or 0.28 to trade at $53.66 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.16% to 1.5577, while EUR/GBP fell 0.55% to 0.7004.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.57% at 97.78.
