Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Financial Services, Utilities and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 1.00%, while the MDAX index lost 1.12%, and the TecDAX index fell 1.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG), which rose 2.30% or 0.151 points to trade at 6.724 at the close. Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) added 1.82% or 0.270 points to end at 15.130 and Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG) was up 0.57% or 0.070 points to 12.295 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn), which lost 3.27% or 0.99 points to trade at 29.43 in late trade. Deutsche Boerse AG Z.UMT. (DE:DB11) declined 2.48% or 1.89 points to end at 74.36 and Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) shed 2.30% or 2.170 points to 92.370.
The top performers on the MDAX were K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn) which rose 4.94% to 20.090, Aareal Bank AG (DE:ARLG) which was up 2.20% to settle at 34.220 and Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which gained 1.95% to close at 50.940.
The worst performers were Kion Group AG (DE:KGX) which was down 7.14% to 49.66 in late trade, Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which lost 4.64% to settle at 4.32 and Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (DE:DWNG) which was down 3.68% to 27.990 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Slm Solution G (DE:AM3D) which rose 4.43% to 31.70, Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which was up 2.85% to settle at 38.935 and Aixtron SE (F:AIXC) which gained 2.07% to close at 3.840.
The worst performers were STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which was down 5.67% to 41.450 in late trade, S&T AG (F:SANT1) which lost 4.01% to settle at 9.023 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 3.00% to 22.150 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 607 to 301 and 26 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 5.29% to 20.95.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.45% or 5.25 to $1168.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 4.45% or 2.20 to hit $51.64 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 4.90% or 2.54 to trade at $54.38 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.34% to 1.0627, while EUR/GBP fell 0.30% to 0.8442.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.35% at 101.27.
