Investing.com – Russia equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Power and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX lost 1.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MICEX were Surgut (MCX:SNGS), which rose 4.21% or 1.155 points to trade at 28.600 at the close. Surgut-pref (MCX:SNGS_p) added 3.02% or 0.850 points to end at 29.000 and AK Transneft OAO Pref (MCX:TRNF_p) was up 2.06% or 3150 points to 156300 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lukoil (MCX:LKOH), which lost 3.96% or 123.0 points to trade at 2983.0 in late trade. MMK (MCX:MAGN) declined 3.59% or 1.150 points to end at 30.860 and GidroOGK-011D (MCX:HYDR) shed 3.01% or 0.0243 points to 0.7837.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 135 to 85 and 21 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was down 1.73% to 25.010.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.55% or 19.95 to $1307.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 3.17% or 1.48 to hit $45.19 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 3.16% or 1.52 to trade at $46.62 a barrel.
USD/RUB was up 0.74% to 63.7903, while EUR/RUB rose 1.26% to 70.870.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.50% at 97.27.
