Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Financials and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 1.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3), which rose 4.95% or 0.86 points to trade at 18.24 at the close. Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) added 4.38% or 0.76 points to end at 18.12 and Cia Paranaense de Energia (SA:CPLE6) was up 4.25% or 1.08 points to 26.48 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JBS SA (SA:JBSS3), which lost 2.66% or 0.26 points to trade at 9.50 in late trade. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) declined 1.95% or 0.04 points to end at 2.01 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) shed 1.48% or 0.030 points to 2.000.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 152 to 120 and 33 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.84% to 43.27.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.40% or 5.15 to $1283.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 3.79% or 1.82 to hit $46.19 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 1.01% or 1.40 to trade at $139.72 .
USD/BRL was down 0.27% to 3.4630, while EUR/BRL fell 0.54% to 3.8899.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.04% at 94.71.
