Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Consumption and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5), which rose 5.39% or 0.72 points to trade at 14.07 at the close. Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) added 4.37% or 1.38 points to end at 32.96 and Klabin Unt (SA:KLBN11) was up 2.31% or 0.38 points to 16.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which lost 4.52% or 0.26 points to trade at 5.49 in late trade. Gerdau SA Pref (SA:GGBR4) declined 4.04% or 0.51 points to end at 12.10 and Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) shed 3.55% or 0.73 points to 19.81.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 211 to 134 and 29 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.00% to 33.35.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.57% or 6.95 to $1205.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.59% or 0.30 to hit $51.38 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 0.84% or 1.25 to trade at $150.82 .
USD/BRL was down 1.05% to 3.1970, while EUR/BRL fell 0.78% to 3.4074.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.16% at 101.15.
