Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.78%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.80%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 3.18% or 7.25 points to trade at 234.90 at the close. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) added 2.73% or 16.40 points to end at 616.45 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was up 2.14% or 12.10 points to 578.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY), which lost 5.04% or 111.30 points to trade at 2095.65 in late trade. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 4.29% or 22.65 points to end at 505.05 and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (NS:IOC) shed 4.16% or 17.95 points to 413.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 2.63% to 615.75, Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which was up 2.32% to settle at 578.25 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which gained 1.48% to close at 386.70.
The worst performers were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 4.91% to 2101.70 in late trade, Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which lost 2.67% to settle at 244.60 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 2.33% to 303.85 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1279 to 272 and 5 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1931 fell and 578 advanced, while 112 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 7.36% to 12.7700 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.38% or 4.78 to $1269.48 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.18% or 0.09 to hit $49.48 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $52.37 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.32% to 63.644, while EUR/INR fell 0.17% to 75.1779.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 93.17.
