Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Telecoms and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.59%, while the S&P 500 index lost 1.05%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 0.62% or 0.37 points to trade at 60.29 at the close. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) added 0.52% or 0.47 points to end at 91.51 and Raytheon Technologies Corp (NYSE:RTX) was up 0.07% or 0.04 points to 57.94 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 3.69% or 5.00 points to trade at 130.44 in late trade. Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) declined 3.24% or 3.77 points to end at 112.44 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) shed 3.17% or 2.93 points to 89.62.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Take-Two Interactive Software Inc (NASDAQ:TTWO) which rose 4.95% to 142.24, HP Inc (NYSE:HPQ) which was up 3.78% to settle at 16.73 and Advance Auto Parts Inc (NYSE:AAP) which gained 3.59% to close at 135.82.
The worst performers were Kohls Corp (NYSE:KSS) which was down 7.65% to 17.38 in late trade, TechnipFMC PLC (NYSE:FTI) which lost 6.81% to settle at 6.98 and Hess Corporation (NYSE:HES) which was down 6.62% to 45.86 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Nano Dimension Ltd (NASDAQ:NNDM) which rose 341.67% to 3.400, ShiftPixy Inc (NASDAQ:PIXY) which was up 51.64% to settle at 9.69 and JMU Ltd (NASDAQ:MFH) which gained 37.21% to close at 1.9300.
The worst performers were Centric Brands Inc (NASDAQ:CTRC) which was down 29.55% to 0.310 in late trade, Gamida Cell Ltd (NASDAQ:GMDA) which lost 26.27% to settle at 4.35 and Bellerophon Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:BLPH) which was down 19.55% to 13.0000 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1812 to 1066 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1704 fell and 973 advanced, while 40 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 4.20% to 30.53.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.80% or 13.95 to $1748.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.76% or 0.24 to hit $31.89 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $34.47 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.00% to 1.0921, while USD/JPY unchanged 0.00% to 107.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 99.572.
