Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Telecoms and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 1.07% to hit a new 1-month low, while the S&P 500 index lost 1.07%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 1.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which rose 1.49% or 2.31 points to trade at 157.85 at the close. Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 0.10% or 0.16 points to end at 153.69 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) was up 0.03% or 0.01 points to 35.27 in late trade.
Biggest losers included 3M Company (NYSE:MMM), which lost 3.17% or 3.98 points to trade at 121.65 in late trade. Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) declined 2.01% or 3.84 points to end at 186.89 and Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) shed 1.78% or 2.48 points to 137.16.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were CF Industries Holdings Inc (NYSE:CF) which rose 4.34% to 106.86, Hess Corporation (NYSE:HES) which was up 3.83% to settle at 120.91 and The Mosaic Company (NYSE:MOS) which gained 3.79% to close at 54.84.
The worst performers were DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) which was down 4.49% to 17.01 in late trade, Generac Holdlings Inc (NYSE:GNRC) which lost 4.13% to settle at 223.39 and Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:ZBRA) which was down 3.92% to 297.60 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Venus Concept Inc (NASDAQ:VERO) which rose 54.87% to 0.54, Sunrise New Energy Co Ltd (NASDAQ:EPOW) which was up 31.46% to settle at 2.80 and Advanced Human Imaging Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:AHI) which gained 29.90% to close at 1.26.
The worst performers were PolyPid (NASDAQ:PYPD) which was down 73.47% to 1.43 in late trade, Shuttle Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:SHPH) which lost 71.56% to settle at 14.90 and ShiftPixy Inc (NASDAQ:PIXY) which was down 33.92% to 13.60 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1800 to 1295 and 158 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2338 fell and 1371 advanced, while 257 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.35% to 25.47.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.70% or 12.05 to $1,721.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.59% or 0.51 to hit $87.12 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.01% or 0.93 to trade at $93.29 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.17% to 1.00, while USD/JPY fell 0.02% to 140.18.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 109.54.
