Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Utilities, Consumer Goods and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.65%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.77%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 1.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 0.89% or 0.29 points to trade at 33.00 at the close. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) added 0.77% or 0.88 points to end at 114.60 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) was up 0.51% or 1.16 points to 229.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which lost 1.55% or 0.79 points to trade at 50.33 in late trade. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) declined 1.54% or 0.49 points to end at 31.40 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) shed 1.52% or 4.87 points to 314.71.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were CarMax Inc (NYSE:KMX) which rose 10.07% to 86.21, Generac Holdings Inc (NYSE:GNRC) which was up 3.41% to settle at 129.07 and Celanese Corporation (NYSE:CE) which gained 2.17% to close at 109.46.
The worst performers were Assurant Inc (NYSE:AIZ) which was down 5.69% to 123.81 in late trade, DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) which lost 5.20% to settle at 6.02 and Axon Enterprise Inc (NASDAQ:AXON) which was down 4.17% to 188.71 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Kidpik Corp (NASDAQ:PIK) which rose 93.72% to 1.17, ConforMIS Inc (NASDAQ:CFMS) which was up 87.07% to settle at 2.17 and Lulu's Fashion Lounge Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:LVLU) which gained 48.11% to close at 3.14.
The worst performers were Spark Networks SE ADR (NASDAQ:LOV) which was down 61.92% to 0.28 in late trade, SMX Security Matters Ord Shs Class A (NASDAQ:SMX) which lost 60.22% to settle at 0.18 and GSR II Meteora Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:GSRM) which was down 33.29% to 6.95 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2088 to 870 and 76 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2374 fell and 1168 advanced, while 140 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 4.11% to 13.44.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.30% or 5.85 to $1,929.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.24% or 0.17 to hit $69.34 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.08% or 0.06 to trade at $74.08 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.60% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.45% to 143.76.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.52% at 102.53.
