Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Industrials and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.38%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.58%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 1.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH), which rose 1.94% or 4.59 points to trade at 241.38 at the close. Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) added 1.24% or 0.71 points to end at 58.09 and Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) was up 0.75% or 0.42 points to 56.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW), which lost 4.11% or 2.18 points to trade at 50.80 in late trade. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) declined 3.04% or 3.85 points to end at 122.76 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) shed 1.58% or 2.72 points to 169.09.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Under Armour Inc A (NYSE:UAA) which rose 7.77% to 23.58, Under Armour Inc C (NYSE:UA) which was up 6.92% to settle at 20.700 and Applied Materials Inc (NASDAQ:AMAT) which gained 2.50% to close at 42.70.
The worst performers were Deere & Company (NYSE:DE) which was down 7.65% to 134.82 in late trade, Pacific Gas & Electric Co (NYSE:PCG) which lost 6.33% to settle at 17.02 and Qorvo Inc (NASDAQ:QRVO) which was down 6.14% to 63.93 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were OUTLOOK THERAPEUTICS INC (NASDAQ:OTLK) which rose 37.25% to 2.10, Golden Bull Ltd (NASDAQ:DNJR) which was up 26.00% to settle at 4.70 and Precision Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:AIPT) which gained 25.97% to close at 0.6300.
The worst performers were Jiayin Group Inc (NASDAQ:JFIN) which was down 37.74% to 13.51 in late trade, TDH Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PETZ) which lost 24.40% to settle at 0.48 and Electrocore LLC (NASDAQ:ECOR) which was down 20.84% to 3.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2186 to 765 and 128 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1878 fell and 770 advanced, while 82 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 4.38% to 15.96.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.69% or 8.85 to $1277.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.22% or 0.14 to hit $62.73 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.70% or 0.51 to trade at $72.11 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.11% to 1.1159, while USD/JPY rose 0.21% to 110.08.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 97.852.
