Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Consumer Services, Telecoms and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.33%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.14%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which rose 1.93% or 0.93 points to trade at 49.13 at the close. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) added 1.31% or 1.49 points to end at 115.49 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) was up 0.88% or 1.11 points to 127.26 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which lost 3.46% or 4.11 points to trade at 114.76 in late trade. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) declined 2.57% or 2.41 points to end at 91.35 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) shed 1.45% or 4.28 points to 290.88.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Catalent Inc (NYSE:CTLT) which rose 15.59% to 37.15, EPAM Systems Inc (NYSE:EPAM) which was up 3.94% to settle at 247.50 and Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:ADBE) which gained 3.00% to close at 371.25.
The worst performers were VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which was down 8.18% to 19.07 in late trade, Signature Bank (OTC:SBNY) which lost 7.53% to settle at 0.14 and Lumen Technologies Inc (NYSE:LUMN) which was down 6.37% to 2.35 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Wisekey International Holding AG (NASDAQ:WKEY) which rose 50.00% to 3.45, Neximmune Inc (NASDAQ:NEXI) which was up 46.64% to settle at 0.44 and Tempo Automation Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:TMPO) which gained 32.55% to close at 0.34.
The worst performers were CaliberCos Inc (NASDAQ:CWD) which was down 31.82% to 5.25 in late trade, Adamis Pharma (NASDAQ:ADMP) which lost 26.47% to settle at 0.05 and Elevation Oncology Inc (NASDAQ:ELEV) which was down 24.70% to 3.81 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1770 to 1184 and 99 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1844 fell and 1668 advanced, while 185 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 4.74% to 16.81.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.99% or 19.45 to $1,979.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.18% or 0.13 to hit $71.73 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.09% or 0.07 to trade at $75.79 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.34% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 0.57% to 137.91.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.38% at 103.06.
