Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Telecoms and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.17%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.46%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.63%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 2.34% or 4.62 points to trade at 201.88 at the close. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 1.66% or 3.28 points to end at 201.18 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) was up 0.92% or 2.65 points to 290.58 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 2.18% or 0.67 points to trade at 30.10 in late trade. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 1.50% or 1.54 points to end at 100.80 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) shed 1.40% or 1.78 points to 125.10.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Signature Bank (OTC:SBNY) which rose 25.52% to 0.12, DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc (NYSE:DVA) which was up 12.90% to settle at 100.72 and First Republic Bank (OTC:FRCB) which gained 11.54% to close at 0.43.
The worst performers were PayPal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL) which was down 12.73% to 65.90 in late trade, DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) which lost 11.14% to settle at 6.46 and International Flavors & Fragrances Inc (NYSE:IFF) which was down 7.03% to 90.31 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were SHENGFENG DEVELOPMENT Ltd (NASDAQ:SFWL) which rose 101.83% to 8.80, Mobiquity Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:MOBQ) which was up 74.97% to settle at 0.27 and ClearOne Inc (NASDAQ:CLRO) which gained 71.93% to close at 2.14.
The worst performers were Ohmyhome Ltd (NASDAQ:OMH) which was down 51.81% to 12.52 in late trade, Trevena Inc (NASDAQ:TRVN) which lost 43.09% to settle at 1.77 and SMX Security Matters Ord Shs Class A (NASDAQ:SMX) which was down 38.96% to 1.12 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1717 to 1234 and 124 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1947 fell and 1619 advanced, while 180 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 4.30% to 17.71.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.44% or 9.00 to $2,042.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.48% or 0.35 to hit $73.51 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.31% or 0.24 to trade at $77.25 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.37% to 1.10, while USD/JPY rose 0.09% to 135.21.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 101.42.
