Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Consumer Services and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.14%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.04%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM), which rose 2.14% or 2.96 points to trade at 141.20 at the close. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) added 0.95% or 1.20 points to end at 127.92 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) was up 0.75% or 0.87 points to 116.34 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 2.45% or 0.76 points to trade at 30.30 in late trade. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) declined 1.82% or 0.64 points to end at 34.61 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) shed 1.41% or 2.91 points to 203.87.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:NCLH) which rose 8.91% to 14.54, Loews Corp (NYSE:L) which was up 4.45% to settle at 60.13 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which gained 4.18% to close at 289.10.
The worst performers were Signature Bank (OTC:SBNY) which was down 15.79% to 0.08 in late trade, Newell Brands Inc (NASDAQ:NWL) which lost 11.03% to settle at 10.81 and Global Payments Inc (NYSE:GPN) which was down 8.62% to 103.00 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were GD Culture Group Ltd (NASDAQ:GDC) which rose 1,000.00% to 31.00, Utime Ltd (NASDAQ:UTME) which was up 223.53% to settle at 2.20 and Baosheng Media Group Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:BAOS) which gained 216.84% to close at 16.00.
The worst performers were CBL International Ltd (NASDAQ:BANL) which was down 72.29% to 4.06 in late trade, Huadi International Group Co Ltd (NASDAQ:HUDI) which lost 57.13% to settle at 5.65 and TOP Financial Group Ltd (NASDAQ:TOP) which was down 52.39% to 51.52 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1737 to 1248 and 105 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1860 fell and 1753 advanced, while 132 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.90% to 16.08.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.46% or 9.10 to $1,990.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.43% or 1.10 to hit $75.68 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.24% or 1.00 to trade at $79.33 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.43% to 1.10, while USD/JPY rose 0.90% to 137.51.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.49% at 101.90.
