Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Technology, Healthcare and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.12%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.16%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which rose 2.67% or 0.88 points to trade at 33.82 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 2.19% or 4.39 points to end at 204.96 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) was up 1.75% or 0.91 points to 52.91 in late trade.
Biggest losers included American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), which lost 2.40% or 3.91 points to trade at 159.21 in late trade. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) declined 1.93% or 9.32 points to end at 472.58 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) shed 1.31% or 1.40 points to 105.53.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were PVH Corp (NYSE:PVH) which rose 20.02% to 88.36, McCormick & Company Incorporated (NYSE:MKC) which was up 9.61% to settle at 81.18 and Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which gained 6.14% to close at 9.33.
The worst performers were Signature Bank (OTC:SBNY) which was down 99.81% to 0.13 in late trade, SVB Financial Group (OTC:SIVBQ) which lost 99.62% to settle at 0.40 and Humana Inc (NYSE:HUM) which was down 4.65% to 483.41 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Biomea Fusion Inc (NASDAQ:BMEA) which rose 99.03% to 30.71, Viking Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:VKTX) which was up 69.30% to settle at 15.44 and Greenbrook TMS Inc (NASDAQ:GBNH) which gained 50.17% to close at 1.13.
The worst performers were Signature Bank (OTC:SBNY) which was down 99.81% to 0.13 in late trade, SVB Financial Group (OTC:SIVBQ) which lost 99.62% to settle at 0.40 and Monopar Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:MNPR) which was down 51.34% to 1.45 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1805 to 1187 and 120 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2026 fell and 1558 advanced, while 185 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.06% to 19.97.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.97% or 19.10 to $1,990.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.81% or 0.59 to hit $73.40 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.64% or 0.50 to trade at $78.26 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.44% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 0.54% to 130.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.43% at 102.08.
