Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Utilities and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.11%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.14%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were 3M Company (NYSE:MMM), which rose 1.52% or 2.41 points to trade at 160.51 at the close. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) added 1.07% or 1.00 points to end at 94.88 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) was up 0.56% or 1.14 points to 205.82 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which lost 1.10% or 0.51 points to trade at 46.05 in late trade. Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) declined 0.89% or 1.07 points to end at 119.17 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) shed 0.86% or 0.45 points to 51.64.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co (NYSE:HPE) which rose 4.18% to 14.95, ABIOMED Inc (NASDAQ:ABMD) which was up 4.05% to settle at 176.51 and Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which gained 2.62% to close at 30.53.
The worst performers were IPG Photonics Corporation (NASDAQ:IPGP) which was down 7.80% to 125.40 in late trade, Nektar Therapeutics (NASDAQ:NKTR) which lost 7.14% to settle at 15.87 and CF Industries Holdings Inc (NYSE:CF) which was down 3.26% to 48.97 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were NF Energy Saving Corp (NASDAQ:BIMI) which rose 508.11% to 9.0000, Synthesis Energy Systems Inc (NASDAQ:SES) which was up 271.43% to settle at 19.5000 and Oncternal Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ONCT) which gained 31.46% to close at 5.6000.
The worst performers were Luokung Technology Corp (NASDAQ:LKCO) which was down 29.11% to 2.460 in late trade, Cocrystal Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:COCP) which lost 18.73% to settle at 1.2190 and Internet Gold Golden Lines Ltd (NASDAQ:IGLD) which was down 18.09% to 18.02 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1617 to 1215 and 100 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1595 fell and 1024 advanced, while 88 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.48% to 14.57.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.58% or 8.60 to $1497.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.23% or 1.22 to hit $53.48 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $59.21 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.03% to 1.1024, while USD/JPY rose 0.02% to 108.41.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 98.188.
