Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Technology and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.08%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.20%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), which rose 1.75% or 2.33 points to trade at 135.17 at the close. Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) added 0.93% or 0.43 points to end at 46.79 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) was up 0.85% or 1.10 points to 130.86 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Exxon Mobil Corp (NYSE:XOM), which lost 1.71% or 1.19 points to trade at 68.23 in late trade. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) declined 1.03% or 1.20 points to end at 115.11 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) shed 0.82% or 1.17 points to 140.41.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were McKesson Corporation (NYSE:MCK) which rose 4.83% to 144.84, JB Hunt Transport Services Inc (NASDAQ:JBHT) which was up 3.63% to settle at 115.65 and AmerisourceBergen (NYSE:ABC) which gained 3.43% to close at 86.05.
The worst performers were Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ALXN) which was down 5.06% to 99.51 in late trade, Exelon Corporation (NASDAQ:EXC) which lost 4.57% to settle at 44.91 and DXC Technology Co (NYSE:DXC) which was down 3.90% to 27.87 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Bionano Genomics Inc (NASDAQ:BNGO) which rose 417.62% to 2.85, Achillion Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ACHN) which was up 72.04% to settle at 6.28 and Viveve Medical Inc (NASDAQ:VIVE) which gained 39.47% to close at 5.3000.
The worst performers were Titan Medical Inc (NASDAQ:TMDI) which was down 51.83% to 0.5250 in late trade, Titan Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:TTNP) which lost 51.02% to settle at 0.1800 and Golden Bull Ltd (NASDAQ:DNJR) which was down 31.57% to 0.48 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1480 to 1376 and 108 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1351 rose and 1259 declined, while 103 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.03% to 13.68.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.70% or 10.45 to $1493.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.32% or 0.17 to hit $52.98 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $59.08 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.02% to 1.1073, while USD/JPY rose 0.00% to 108.75.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 97.738.
