Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Telecoms, Industrials and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 2.32%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.47%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 1.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 14.40% or 24.48 points to trade at 194.49 at the close. Raytheon Technologies Corp (NYSE:RTX) added 4.77% or 2.82 points to end at 61.92 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) was up 2.96% or 1.18 points to 40.98 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which lost 0.35% or 0.16 points to trade at 46.15 in late trade. JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) added 0.44% or 0.41 points to end at 93.00 and Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) gained 0.63% or 0.74 points to 119.06.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) which rose 14.40% to 194.49, Coty Inc (NYSE:COTY) which was up 13.40% to settle at 4.74 and Kohls Corp (NYSE:KSS) which gained 10.07% to close at 20.66.
The worst performers were Noble Energy Inc (NASDAQ:NBL) which was down 5.05% to 8.65 in late trade, TechnipFMC PLC (NYSE:FTI) which lost 3.41% to settle at 6.80 and Take-Two Interactive Software Inc (NASDAQ:TTWO) which was down 2.40% to 137.79 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were BioHiTech Global Inc (NASDAQ:BHTG) which rose 66.06% to 2.740, PDS Biotechnology Corp (NASDAQ:PDSB) which was up 60.49% to settle at 2.600 and Puhui Wealth Investment Management Co Ltd (NASDAQ:PHCF) which gained 49.63% to close at 8.080.
The worst performers were Cleveland BioLabs Inc (NASDAQ:CBLI) which was down 42.49% to 2.4500 in late trade, Intercept Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ICPT) which lost 39.73% to settle at 46.70 and Concrete Pumping Holdings Class A (NASDAQ:BBCP) which was down 33.21% to 3.66 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2199 to 671 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1782 rose and 941 declined, while 43 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 8.49% to 31.78.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.22% or 4.00 to $1784.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.94% or 1.13 to hit $39.62 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $41.87 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.01% to 1.1241, while USD/JPY rose 0.03% to 107.59.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 97.435.
