Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Technology and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 1.31%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.96%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.85%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which rose 4.10% or 1.52 points to trade at 38.59 at the close. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 3.45% or 4.82 points to end at 144.59 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 3.06% or 4.90 points to 164.91 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which lost 2.45% or 2.35 points to trade at 93.44 in late trade. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 0.13% or 0.16 points to end at 124.68 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) shed 0.13% or 0.05 points to 37.19.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Viatris Inc (NASDAQ:VTRS) which rose 13.09% to 10.97, DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) which was up 9.89% to settle at 14.67 and Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) which gained 6.53% to close at 96.72.
The worst performers were Dominion Energy Inc (NYSE:D) which was down 6.24% to 62.94 in late trade, NiSource Inc (NYSE:NI) which lost 5.87% to settle at 24.37 and Ceridian HCM Holding Inc (NYSE:CDAY) which was down 5.17% to 57.43 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Digital World Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:DWAC) which rose 66.48% to 29.10, Arqit Quantum Inc (NASDAQ:ARQQ) which was up 46.87% to settle at 8.21 and Veru Inc (NASDAQ:VERU) which gained 39.52% to close at 14.44.
The worst performers were Huadi International Group Co Ltd (NASDAQ:HUDI) which was down 91.22% to 15.81 in late trade, Bio Path Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:BPTH) which lost 45.96% to settle at 1.54 and Inhibikase Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:IKT) which was down 40.91% to 0.46 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1974 to 1133 and 129 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2062 rose and 1714 declined, while 242 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.81% to 24.35 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.08% or 1.30 to $1,677.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.75% or 0.69 to hit $91.92 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.57% or 0.56 to trade at $98.01 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.63% to 1.00, while USD/JPY rose 0.02% to 146.62.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.66% at 110.04.
