Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Technology, Financials and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.05% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.23%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.70%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV), which rose 6.75% or 13.38 points to trade at 211.73 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) added 3.02% or 1.41 points to end at 48.15 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) was up 2.80% or 4.67 points to 171.51 in late trade.
Biggest losers included UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH), which lost 2.73% or 14.10 points to trade at 502.24 in late trade. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) declined 0.68% or 0.15 points to end at 22.00 and Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) shed 0.53% or 0.86 points to 162.38.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which rose 7.11% to 174.23, The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) which was up 6.75% to settle at 211.73 and PayPal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL) which gained 6.01% to close at 65.82.
The worst performers were Molina Healthcare Inc (NYSE:MOH) which was down 4.12% to 365.36 in late trade, Centene Corp (NYSE:CNC) which lost 3.21% to settle at 74.14 and Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which was down 2.88% to 103.59 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Mesa Air Group Inc (NASDAQ:MESA) which rose 49.98% to 0.96, Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which was up 35.94% to settle at 423.36 and Edgewise Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:EWTX) which gained 34.57% to close at 13.04.
The worst performers were C3is Inc (NASDAQ:CISS) which was down 64.05% to 0.14 in late trade, Newcourt Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:NCAC) which lost 27.53% to settle at 6.45 and iRobot Corporation (NASDAQ:IRBT) which was down 26.93% to 17.26 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1917 to 941 and 89 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2054 rose and 1370 declined, while 112 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.87% to 13.30.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.49% or 9.95 to $2,031.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.53% or 0.39 to hit $73.56 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.37% or 0.29 to trade at $78.81 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.19% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.03% to 148.11.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 103.04.
