Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Telecoms and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.62%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.36%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW), which rose 3.07% or 1.23 points to trade at 41.32 at the close. Exxon Mobil Corp (NYSE:XOM) added 2.89% or 1.22 points to end at 43.47 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) was up 2.55% or 4.96 points to 199.36 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), which lost 1.50% or 3.25 points to trade at 213.29 in late trade. The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) declined 1.14% or 1.30 points to end at 113.10 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) shed 1.05% or 0.87 points to 81.67.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Mosaic Co (NYSE:MOS) which rose 13.52% to 15.53, Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which was up 9.49% to settle at 85.04 and Williams Companies Inc (NYSE:WMB) which gained 8.21% to close at 21.34.
The worst performers were Evergy Inc (NYSE:EVRG) which was down 11.61% to 55.40 in late trade, American International Group Inc (NYSE:AIG) which lost 7.53% to settle at 29.72 and IPG Photonics Corporation (NASDAQ:IPGP) which was down 6.86% to 167.66 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Alterity Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:ATHE) which rose 154.07% to 3.4300, SilverSun Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SSNT) which was up 98.53% to settle at 5.40 and SINTX Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SINT) which gained 53.05% to close at 3.260.
The worst performers were DBV Technologies (NASDAQ:DBVT) which was down 42.93% to 2.34 in late trade, Senmiao Technology Ltd (NASDAQ:AIHS) which lost 37.35% to settle at 0.5100 and Grindrod Shipping Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:GRIN) which was down 30.74% to 3.74 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1977 to 1072 and 81 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1631 rose and 1151 declined, while 66 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.14% to 23.76 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for October delivery was up 2.53% or 50.00 to $2024.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.27% or 0.52 to hit $41.53 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.05% or 0.02 to trade at $44.36 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.01% to 1.1801, while USD/JPY rose 0.03% to 105.73.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 93.235.
