Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Telecoms and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.58% to hit a new 3-month high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.74%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 4.65% or 9.67 points to trade at 217.71 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) added 2.12% or 0.93 points to end at 44.74 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was up 2.05% or 7.59 points to 377.44 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT), which lost 1.04% or 2.62 points to trade at 250.45 in late trade. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) declined 0.90% or 0.19 points to end at 21.03 and Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) shed 0.53% or 0.80 points to 150.27.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which rose 6.07% to 98.50, Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which was up 5.61% to settle at 13.93 and Palo Alto Networks Inc (NASDAQ:PANW) which gained 5.24% to close at 260.57.
The worst performers were Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (NYSE:BMY) which was down 3.82% to 48.90 in late trade, WestRock Co (NYSE:WRK) which lost 3.22% to settle at 36.69 and International Paper (NYSE:IP) which was down 2.40% to 32.58 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Cardio Diagnostics Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:CDIO) which rose 123.23% to 2.21, Bruush Oral Care Inc Unit (NASDAQ:BRSH) which was up 74.56% to settle at 0.29 and Nogin Inc (NASDAQ:NOGN) which gained 73.33% to close at 0.31.
The worst performers were NanoString Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:NSTG) which was down 50.00% to 0.64 in late trade, Paxmedica Inc (NASDAQ:PXMD) which lost 44.00% to settle at 0.98 and Intelligent Bio Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:INBS) which was down 33.80% to 0.30 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1795 to 1096 and 87 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2033 rose and 1446 declined, while 113 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.83% to 13.41 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.25% or 4.95 to $1,979.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.04% or 1.55 to hit $77.59 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.76% or 1.42 to trade at $82.03 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.31% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.82% to 148.40.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.42% at 103.36.
