Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.56% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index added 0.93%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.53%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 5.52% or 1.73 points to trade at 33.07 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 1.96% or 4.25 points to end at 221.56 and Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) was up 1.65% or 0.82 points to 50.48 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which lost 0.96% or 1.53 points to trade at 157.33 in late trade. Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) declined 0.78% or 1.15 points to end at 145.41 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) shed 0.77% or 0.85 points to 109.86.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which rose 12.53% to 14.73, Catalent Inc (NYSE:CTLT) which was up 10.23% to settle at 42.78 and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:NCLH) which gained 7.22% to close at 18.41.
The worst performers were Nasdaq Inc (NASDAQ:NDAQ) which was down 11.81% to 51.00 in late trade, KeyCorp (NYSE:KEY) which lost 4.31% to settle at 10.22 and T. Rowe Price Group Inc (NASDAQ:TROW) which was down 3.33% to 110.66 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Auddia Inc (NASDAQ:AUUD) which rose 181.50% to 1.22, Asset Entities Inc (NASDAQ:ASST) which was up 75.65% to settle at 2.02 and Chinook Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:KDNY) which gained 58.32% to close at 37.98.
The worst performers were Forza X1 Inc (NASDAQ:FRZA) which was down 47.44% to 1.64 in late trade, Cyxtera Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:CYXT) which lost 25.78% to settle at 0.05 and HTG Molecular Diagnostics Inc (NASDAQ:HTGM) which was down 19.42% to 0.59 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1586 to 1396 and 110 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2094 rose and 1475 declined, while 159 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 8.53% to 15.01.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.29% or 5.75 to $1,971.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 4.19% or 2.94 to hit $67.23 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 3.77% or 2.82 to trade at $71.97 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.18% to 139.57.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 103.19.
