Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Telecoms, Financials and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.40%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.75%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 4.22% or 8.25 points to trade at 203.64 at the close. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 3.57% or 4.81 points to end at 139.59 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was up 3.55% or 0.95 points to 27.68 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), which lost 4.37% or 10.48 points to trade at 229.10 in late trade. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) declined 2.73% or 14.14 points to end at 504.50 and Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) shed 1.99% or 4.26 points to 210.04.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Bath & Body Works Inc. (NYSE:BBWI) which rose 10.51% to 47.73, Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which was up 9.66% to settle at 8.74 and Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which gained 8.81% to close at 10.38.
The worst performers were Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET) which was down 5.85% to 113.84 in late trade, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) which lost 4.37% to settle at 229.10 and Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (NYSE:ADM) which was down 3.64% to 86.39 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Vivos Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:VVOS) which rose 154.05% to 1.88, Cryptyde Inc (NASDAQ:TYDE) which was up 81.35% to settle at 0.35 and Vyne Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:VYNE) which gained 73.08% to close at 0.24.
The worst performers were Vera Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:VERA) which was down 64.70% to 6.46 in late trade, ReShape Lifesciences Inc (NASDAQ:RSLS) which lost 43.17% to settle at 8.90 and Enovix Corp (NASDAQ:ENVX) which was down 41.01% to 7.15 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2481 to 620 and 83 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2695 rose and 1074 declined, while 154 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.89% to 22.01.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.81% or 14.95 to $1,861.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 4.89% or 3.76 to hit $73.17 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 4.97% or 4.08 to trade at $78.02 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.59% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 1.30% to 132.71.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 104.01.
