Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.39%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.35%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT), which rose 2.36% or 3.45 points to trade at 149.82 at the close. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) added 1.82% or 1.24 points to end at 69.34 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 1.79% or 6.00 points to 340.43 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT), which lost 2.35% or 2.06 points to trade at 85.47 in late trade. Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) declined 0.95% or 0.46 points to end at 47.73 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) shed 0.90% or 2.12 points to 233.78.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Illumina Inc (NASDAQ:ILMN) which rose 4.93% to 256.89, Medtronic PLC (NYSE:MDT) which was up 4.61% to settle at 84.82 and United Rentals Inc (NYSE:URI) which gained 4.09% to close at 159.49.
The worst performers were International Flavors & Fragrances Inc (NYSE:IFF) which was down 10.74% to 126.89 in late trade, Dentsply Sirona Inc (NASDAQ:XRAY) which lost 6.14% to settle at 46.92 and Cognizant Technology Solutions (NASDAQ:CTSH) which was down 5.25% to 77.86 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Blink Charging Co (NASDAQ:BLNK) which rose 171.14% to 4.0400, NF Energy Saving Corporation (NASDAQ:NFEC) which was up 58.52% to settle at 2.1400 and X T L Biopharmaceuticals Ltd (NASDAQ:XTLB) which gained 42.90% to close at 2.415.
The worst performers were Reading International B Inc (NASDAQ:RDIB) which was down 23.66% to 20.100 in late trade, Impax Laboratories Inc (NYSE:AMRX) which lost 17.98% to settle at 15.01 and Integrated Media Technology Ltd (NASDAQ:IMTE) which was down 18.63% to 16.82 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1921 to 1144 and 129 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1580 rose and 991 declined, while 108 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.41% to 14.71 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.01% or 0.10 to $1314.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.36% or 0.25 to hit $69.97 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.87% or 0.65 to trade at $75.52 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.30% to 1.1925, while USD/JPY fell 0.05% to 109.07.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 92.61.
