Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.35% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.07%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.74%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which rose 2.93% or 4.34 points to trade at 152.23 at the close. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) added 2.44% or 7.50 points to end at 315.19 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was up 1.84% or 7.44 points to 411.22 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which lost 2.62% or 0.61 points to trade at 22.64 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 1.75% or 0.76 points to end at 42.60 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) shed 1.11% or 1.75 points to 156.61.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) which rose 20.32% to 474.99, Edwards Lifesciences Corp (NYSE:EW) which was up 9.41% to settle at 86.12 and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) which gained 7.87% to close at 171.81.
The worst performers were Charter Communications Inc (NASDAQ:CHTR) which was down 16.51% to 319.21 in late trade, Gen Digital Inc (NASDAQ:GEN) which lost 11.25% to settle at 21.23 and First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which was down 4.10% to 141.82 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Intelligent Bio Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:INBS) which rose 146.89% to 5.95, Mountain Crest Acquisition Corp IV (NASDAQ:MCAF) which was up 54.11% to settle at 18.00 and Atara Biotherapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ATRA) which gained 46.99% to close at 1.22.
The worst performers were Cingulate Inc (NASDAQ:CING) which was down 60.42% to 1.33 in late trade, Scienjoy Holding Corp (NASDAQ:SJ) which lost 58.93% to settle at 1.38 and Griid Infrastructure Inc (NASDAQ:GRDI) which was down 48.64% to 2.08 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1975 to 919 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2148 fell and 1248 advanced, while 132 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.22% to 13.85.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.79% or 16.45 to $2,054.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.21% or 1.63 to hit $72.19 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.83% or 1.44 to trade at $77.26 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.75% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 1.29% to 148.32.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.90% at 103.79.
