Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.25%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.37%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS), which rose 2.12% or 4.21 points to trade at 202.47 at the close. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) added 1.43% or 1.66 points to end at 117.57 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) was up 1.43% or 3.60 points to 255.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 1.77% or 6.71 points to trade at 372.28 in late trade. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) declined 1.60% or 1.84 points to end at 113.12 and Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) shed 0.91% or 0.93 points to 101.51.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Edwards Lifesciences Corporation (NYSE:EW) which rose 6.20% to 190.89, National Oilwell Varco Inc (NYSE:NOV) which was up 6.21% to settle at 28.12 and Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE:CHK) which gained 6.06% to close at 3.150.
The worst performers were Boston Scientific Corp (NYSE:BSX) which was down 5.57% to 37.9700 in late trade, Becton Dickinson and Company (NYSE:BDX) which lost 3.64% to settle at 244.67 and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) which was down 3.32% to 160.47 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Jaguar Health Inc (NASDAQ:JAGX) which rose 192.64% to 0.465, Dare Bioscience Inc (NASDAQ:DARE) which was up 128.26% to settle at 2.100 and Dermira (NASDAQ:DERM) which gained 84.36% to close at 12.61.
The worst performers were Aerpio Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ARPO) which was down 71.29% to 1.22 in late trade, NII Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:NIHD) which lost 28.84% to settle at 2.270 and Global Eagle Entertainment Inc (NASDAQ:ENT) which was down 27.37% to 1.300 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2004 to 1003 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1603 rose and 1039 declined, while 88 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.71% to 13.10.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.05% or 0.65 to $1303.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.73% or 0.43 to hit $59.25 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.39% or 0.26 to trade at $67.42 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.15% to 1.1342, while USD/JPY fell 0.04% to 111.40.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 95.947.
