Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Industrials and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.22%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.31%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.63%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT), which rose 1.61% or 3.81 points to trade at 239.98 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 1.17% or 2.31 points to end at 200.46 and JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) was up 0.87% or 1.23 points to 142.16 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which lost 1.15% or 0.41 points to trade at 35.39 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 0.95% or 0.24 points to end at 24.90 and Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) shed 0.72% or 1.03 points to 141.44.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP) which rose 10.09% to 212.17, Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which was up 5.94% to settle at 210.78 and SolarEdge Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SEDG) which gained 5.89% to close at 313.63.
The worst performers were DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) which was down 8.06% to 12.20 in late trade, Lumen Technologies Inc (NYSE:LUMN) which lost 4.49% to settle at 3.40 and Charles Schwab Corp (NYSE:SCHW) which was down 3.37% to 77.88 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Lucira Health Inc (NASDAQ:LHDX) which rose 264.29% to 0.51, ContraFect Corp (NASDAQ:CFRX) which was up 52.90% to settle at 4.74 and Blackboxstocks Inc (NASDAQ:BLBX) which gained 47.27% to close at 0.81.
The worst performers were Mount Rainier Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:RNER) which was down 46.22% to 5.05 in late trade, Smith Micro Software Inc (NASDAQ:SMSI) which lost 36.40% to settle at 1.59 and Apexigen Inc (NASDAQ:APGN) which was down 33.22% to 0.87 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1840 to 1218 and 98 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2039 rose and 1657 declined, while 200 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.32% to 20.95.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.39% or 7.05 to $1,824.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.72% or 0.55 to hit $75.77 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.86% or 0.71 to trade at $82.11 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.59% to 1.06, while USD/JPY fell 0.17% to 136.23.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.52% at 104.61.
