Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.17%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.80%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which rose 7.16% or 1.53 points to trade at 22.91 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) added 2.13% or 0.88 points to end at 42.15 and Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) was up 1.17% or 0.56 points to 48.26 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK), which lost 1.67% or 1.76 points to trade at 103.87 in late trade. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) declined 1.10% or 1.28 points to end at 114.83 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) shed 0.82% or 1.29 points to 155.33.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which rose 9.89% to 128.37, Kenvue Inc (NYSE:KVUE) which was up 7.32% to settle at 20.81 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) which gained 7.16% to close at 22.91.
The worst performers were O’Reilly Automotive Inc (NASDAQ:ORLY) which was down 3.20% to 953.71 in late trade, Hess Corporation (NYSE:HES) which lost 3.01% to settle at 132.18 and AutoZone Inc (NYSE:AZO) which was down 2.87% to 2,632.81 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Solid Biosciences LLC (NASDAQ:SLDB) which rose 68.42% to 5.76, Cyngn Inc (NASDAQ:CYN) which was up 64.00% to settle at 0.40 and Satellogic V Inc (NASDAQ:SATL) which gained 45.63% to close at 2.33.
The worst performers were Golden Heaven Group Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:GDHG) which was down 88.99% to 2.32 in late trade, MicroAlgo Inc (NASDAQ:MLGO) which lost 78.60% to settle at 2.05 and Troika Media Group Inc (NASDAQ:TRKA) which was down 71.85% to 0.54 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1893 to 1020 and 68 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2072 rose and 1393 declined, while 105 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.69% to 13.06.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.13% or 2.60 to $2,045.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.39% or 0.27 to hit $69.65 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.17% or 0.13 to trade at $74.43 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.27% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 2.22% to 144.04.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.46% at 103.62.
