Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Telecoms and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.15%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.03%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 4.88% or 4.27 points to trade at 91.76 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) added 1.17% or 0.40 points to end at 34.68 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) was up 1.16% or 2.39 points to 208.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS), which lost 0.67% or 2.29 points to trade at 340.40 in late trade. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) declined 0.60% or 0.66 points to end at 109.03 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) shed 0.52% or 0.90 points to 172.17.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) which rose 4.88% to 91.76, VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which was up 3.74% to settle at 19.98 and Fleetcor Technologies Inc (NYSE:FLT) which gained 3.30% to close at 268.61.
The worst performers were Tapestry Inc (NYSE:TPR) which was down 15.91% to 34.68 in late trade, General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) which lost 5.78% to settle at 34.16 and Ralph Lauren Corp Class A (NYSE:RL) which was down 4.82% to 122.30 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Science 37 Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SNCE) which rose 42.09% to 0.59, TOMI Environmental Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:TOMZ) which was up 29.54% to settle at 0.92 and Edible Garden AG Inc (NASDAQ:EDBL) which gained 29.41% to close at 1.54.
The worst performers were Galera Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:GRTX) which was down 83.93% to 0.36 in late trade, Amyris Inc (NASDAQ:AMRS) which lost 80.75% to settle at 0.07 and Origin Materials Inc (NASDAQ:ORGN) which was down 66.40% to 1.46 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1598 to 1314 and 86 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1836 fell and 1663 advanced, while 126 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.69% to 15.85.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.24% or 4.75 to $1,945.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.80% or 1.52 to hit $82.88 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.31% or 1.15 to trade at $86.40 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.06% to 1.10, while USD/JPY rose 0.73% to 144.77.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 102.47.
