Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Hotels, Oil, Gas & Electricity and Semiconductor sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted added 0.44% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Altek Corp (TW:3059), which rose 10.00% or 3.30 points to trade at 36.30 at the close. Century Iron And Steel Industrial Co Ltd (TW:9958) added 9.96% or 2.55 points to end at 28.15 and PCL Technologies Inc (TW:4977) was up 9.96% or 11.50 points to 127.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Evermore Chemical Industry Co Ltd (TW:1735), which lost 8.23% or 1.60 points to trade at 17.85 in late trade. Tri Ocean Textile Co Ltd (TW:1472) declined 4.95% or 2.10 points to end at 40.30 and Pal Wonn Taiwan Co Ltd (TW:2429) shed 4.25% or 0.45 points to 10.15.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 443 to 327 and 114 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.86% or 0.53 to $62.16 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.49% or 0.33 to hit $68.17 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.53% or 7.00 to trade at $1311.50 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.09% to 29.567, while TWD/CNY rose 0.18% to 0.2201.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 91.81.
