Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Auto, Banking and Green Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.53% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 2.20% or 2.80 points to trade at 129.90 at the close. Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) added 1.01% or 10.90 points to end at 1091.05 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was up 0.82% or 1.80 points to 221.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which lost 4.39% or 26.20 points to trade at 571.30 in late trade. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) declined 4.20% or 145.65 points to end at 3323.10 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) shed 3.84% or 707.00 points to 17664.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 2.32% to 130.00, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 0.61% to settle at 206.60 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which gained 0.55% to close at 2076.95.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 4.36% to 571.35 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which lost 4.16% to settle at 73.65 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 4.16% to 3322.05 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1274 to 321 and 50 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1797 fell and 643 advanced, while 123 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.51% to 12.5150.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.74% or 10.55 to $1438.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.36% or 0.75 to hit $56.05 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.65% or 1.02 to trade at $62.95 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 68.891, while EUR/INR fell 0.28% to 77.4095.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 96.657.
