Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Real Estate and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.27% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA), which rose 2.05% or 74.70 points to trade at 3,717.20 at the close. HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) added 0.75% or 10.15 points to end at 1,365.75 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was up 0.61% or 4.55 points to 752.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which lost 6.78% or 13.70 points to trade at 188.45 in late trade. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 6.02% or 23.70 points to end at 369.70 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) shed 4.48% or 57.20 points to 1,220.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which rose 0.75% to 1,365.55, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was up 0.73% to settle at 752.80 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which gained 0.28% to close at 2,212.55.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 4.47% to 1,220.60 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 2.76% to settle at 1,270.95 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 2.68% to 155.95 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1479 to 387 and 32 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2406 fell and 1008 advanced, while 137 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 15.83% to 21.26.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.16% or 22.35 to $1,911.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 4.36% or 4.45 to hit $97.62 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 4.23% or 4.49 to trade at $101.66 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.30% to 76.71, while EUR/INR fell 0.32% to 82.26.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.47% at 101.68.
