Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Capital Goods, Power and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.93% to hit a new 3-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.85%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which rose 1.84% or 17.20 points to trade at 949.55 at the close. ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) added 1.27% or 3.25 points to end at 259.90 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) was up 0.97% or 5.40 points to 565.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE), which lost 6.45% or 26.15 points to trade at 376.95 in late trade. State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) declined 3.84% or 9.85 points to end at 246.65 and Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) shed 3.37% or 41.75 points to 1196.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 1.05% to 259.20, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was up 0.70% to settle at 8679.00 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which gained 0.64% to close at 2918.50.
The worst performers were Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which was down 6.53% to 377.45 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 3.84% to settle at 246.65 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 2.85% to 286.70 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1413 to 207 and 20 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2186 fell and 483 advanced, while 116 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.35% to 15.7000.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.09% or 1.20 to $1334.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.65% or 0.41 to hit $62.19 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.70% or 0.46 to trade at $65.33 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 64.905, while EUR/INR rose 0.29% to 80.7486.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 89.41.
