Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Public Sector Undertakings and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.83%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.80%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL), which rose 1.93% or 11.00 points to trade at 582.40 at the close. Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN) added 1.49% or 12.10 points to end at 823.75 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) was up 1.42% or 25.10 points to 1,790.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which lost 6.57% or 51.20 points to trade at 728.60 in late trade. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) declined 3.89% or 7.40 points to end at 182.85 and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) shed 3.46% or 30.70 points to 856.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which rose 1.44% to 1,791.00, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was up 1.00% to settle at 1,384.75 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 0.94% to close at 929.00.
The worst performers were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 6.57% to 728.70 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 3.42% to settle at 227.60 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 2.59% to 509.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1229 to 599 and 37 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2033 fell and 1233 advanced, while 131 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.19% to 19.42.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.29% or 24.46 to $1,915.76 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.14% or 1.20 to hit $106.56 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.51% or 1.62 to trade at $108.88 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.22% to 76.43, while EUR/INR rose 0.39% to 80.79.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.66% at 102.97.
