Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.77%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA), which rose 1.62% or 50.15 points to trade at 3142.00 at the close. ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) added 0.85% or 4.50 points to end at 531.10 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) was up 0.83% or 1.60 points to 194.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which lost 5.10% or 2.10 points to trade at 39.10 in late trade. Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) declined 2.76% or 272.60 points to end at 9621.65 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) shed 2.49% or 36.85 points to 1443.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which rose 1.48% to 3137.25, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 0.91% to settle at 194.10 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 0.91% to close at 531.25.
The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 2.51% to 1442.50 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 2.13% to settle at 1231.40 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was down 1.86% to 4483.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1116 to 427 and 80 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1556 fell and 769 advanced, while 149 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.82% to 16.7975.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.50% or 7.85 to $1578.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.76% or 0.94 to hit $52.39 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.92% or 1.13 to trade at $57.78 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.29% to 71.505, while EUR/INR rose 0.32% to 78.7485.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 97.885.
