Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Real Estate and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.67% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 2.36% or 11.65 points to trade at 504.70 at the close. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) added 2.29% or 26.50 points to end at 1181.55 and Ambuja Cements Ltd. (NS:ABUJ) was up 1.77% or 4.80 points to 276.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which lost 4.86% or 19.30 points to trade at 377.65 in late trade. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) declined 4.35% or 13.45 points to end at 295.50 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) shed 4.07% or 21.40 points to 504.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 1.96% to 1176.85, Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which was up 0.72% to settle at 3680.00 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 0.54% to close at 315.55.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 4.01% to 505.05 in late trade, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which lost 2.55% to settle at 177.35 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 2.15% to 487.35 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1266 to 329 and 6 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1902 fell and 753 advanced, while 103 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.71% to 14.2650.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.21% or 2.66 to $1285.56 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.10% or 0.61 to hit $55.09 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.13% or 0.70 to trade at $61.51 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.28% to 65.239, while EUR/INR rose 0.10% to 77.2536.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 93.43.
