Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Capital Goods, IT and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.45% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.51%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 2.69% or 4.15 points to trade at 158.60 at the close. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) added 1.91% or 12.60 points to end at 672.35 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was up 1.38% or 12.60 points to 923.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shree Cements Ltd. (NS:SHCM), which lost 3.30% or 801.60 points to trade at 23,499.00 in late trade. Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) declined 2.31% or 37.15 points to end at 1,570.80 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) shed 2.20% or 300.30 points to 13,329.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 1.92% to 672.45, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 1.37% to settle at 923.20 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which gained 0.92% to close at 2,220.75.
The worst performers were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 2.34% to 1,571.45 in late trade, Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which lost 2.26% to settle at 13,318.70 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 2.08% to 5,806.45 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1494 to 347 and 24 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2521 fell and 763 advanced, while 116 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.24% to 22.80 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.66% or 12.17 to $1,853.17 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.53% or 3.52 to hit $103.28 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.26% or 3.34 to trade at $105.80 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 77.27, while EUR/INR rose 0.34% to 81.54.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 103.61.
