Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.45%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN), which rose 3.57% or 31.10 points to trade at 899.60 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 2.44% or 13.35 points to end at 559.25 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was up 1.33% or 12.30 points to 936.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE), which lost 2.15% or 8.25 points to trade at 374.45 in late trade. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 2.16% or 15.40 points to end at 698.80 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) shed 1.84% or 5.35 points to 284.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 2.57% to 559.65, Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was up 1.17% to settle at 337.00 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which gained 1.00% to close at 1966.60.
The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 2.16% to 1238.70 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which lost 2.11% to settle at 284.65 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which was down 1.75% to 375.45 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 848 to 735 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1352 fell and 1198 advanced, while 126 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.27% to 12.0950 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.53% or 6.90 to $1308.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.26% or 0.17 to hit $66.81 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.46% or 0.35 to trade at $76.39 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.24% to 67.655, while EUR/INR rose 0.28% to 79.9936.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 93.32.
